The author was tasked with providing a history of every regiment in the British army. He was at the time the chief clerk of the Adjutants office of the Horse Guards. This volume details the formation of the Regiment from the period of its being raised as the Second Battalion of the Forty-Second Royal Highlanders in 1780 and of its subsequent services to 1851.
