"Pepita Ximenez" by Juan Valera was at one time one of the most popular Spanish novels of the 19th century. A mixture of romanticism and anti-realism, this book went untranslated for many years before finally being introduced to readers of other languages. Considered an important piece of Spanish literature, it is of extreme importance that this book was saved from being lost to history.
